Meta Hires Staff from Apple and Microsoft To Support Metaverse Project

Microsoft and Apple are some of the most popular tech giants in the world. The technology arena is very well dominated by these companies. But who would have thought that these giants will be ditched to join somewhere else? According to reports, as Meta Platforms sets its eyes on constructing the Metaverse, employees from Microsoft and Apple are hopping ship.

According to former Microsoft employees, roughly 100 people have left the tech giant’s augmented reality division to join Meta Platforms in the last year. According to them, it has been claimed that Meta has been focusing on hiring employees who worked on Microsoft’s HoloLens augmented reality (AR) devices.

This has come as a surprise to many as these tech giants have been influencing the technology market for a long time now.

As per the recent Linkedin, more than 70 people from Microsoft’s HoloLens team have departed the project in the last year. Additionally, with more than 40 of them getting new jobs at Meta. Isn’t it incredible?

Microsoft’s advantage as a pioneer mover in the AR space makes its employees valuable assets for Meta. Microsoft first announced its HoloLens project in 2016. Along with it, the technology has since evolved into one of the world’s most advanced headsets.

Apple is attempting to prevent a staff migration to Meta by offering profitable inventory options and bonuses ranging from $50,000 to $180,000.

Facebook’s bid to become a “meta” social media platform

Until a big rebranding process in October 2021, Meta Platforms was known to be Facebook. This sheerly indicates the company’s rising ambitions outside social media. After passing of few months, its virtual reality hardware division “Reality Labs” has been hard at work. This led to the successful development of a prototype of their virtual reality “haptic gloves” in mid-November 2021.

Given his history with knowledge mining, privacy, and content material insurance policies, certain crypto luminaries, such as Jenny Ta of Hodl Asset, have warned that Mark Zuckerberg should not be the one to drive Facebook into the Metaverse.

Spotify Shuts Down its Namesake Digital Recording Studio

It’s gone and it won’t be coming back.

Spotify has finally decided to shut down its Studio 4 forever. And apparently, all the employees currently working in the studio will be laid off.

Here are all the details we have regarding the shutting down of the studio:

What Was Spotify Studios?

Studio 4 was also externally referenced as Spotify Studios. The studio consisted of about 15 employees. Studio 4 produced popular podcasts such as:

  • Chapo: Kingpin on Trial
  • Dissect
  • Dope Labs
  • Infamous
  • LOUD: The History of Reggaeton
  • We said what we said
  • Bandsplain

Even though Spotify is a company that shares its podcasting endeavors as much as it can and wherever it can, still, Studio 4 rarely or never showed up in front of the press.

But even after that, Studio 4 still showed up in Spotify’s earning reports as ‘Spotify Studios’. Studio 4 is also the first-ever podcasting studio that the Stockholm, Sweden-based streaming company Spotify ever made.

The Studio primarily had employees who were working on podcasting before the Studio’s creation and were hired when the Company acquired major networks. After that external employees were hired but the current group at that time was the one that successfully proved the working of the model of podcasting business and the interest of the listener.

What Happens After the Studio Shuts Down?

Spotify will be disbanding the Studio and laying off the workers. Although most employees are being pink-slipped in restructuring, some employees will be offered a position in the company’s other studios like Gimlet, Parcast, and The Ringer.

The last day of the studio will be on January 21 and the employees being laid off will receive severance money worth 2 months.

The report of shutting down of Studio 4 was given by Julie McNamara, who is the head of US Studios and Video in Spotify and is also paramount plus programming boss. She announced it via a memo.

The memo also read: “Spotify will be able to move faster and make more significant progress and facilitate more effective collaboration across our organization.”

Gina Delvac, one of the employees affected by the shutdown of Studio 4 will be transitioned as a consultor for the company. Gina was head of Studio 4 and is also a founding producer of the popular long-running podcast, “Call your Girlfriend”.

The reason behind the shutting down of the Studio is being rumored as dissatisfaction with the performance of the Division and less than expected outcome. Spotify has invested loads of money into podcasting where a large portion of funds went to the three other studios.

According to a report from Digital Music News, Spotify added 300,000 podcasts during Q3 2021 only for a total of 3.2 million programs. However, some of the works of popular comedians like Kevin Hart, Jim Gaffigan, and Tiffany Haddish were removed due to a royalty dispute.

The Company still has not issued an official statement regarding this decision.

If James Cameron’s much-anticipated follow-up to Avatar doesn’t get postponed again, we should be returning to Pandora by the end of the year.

The sequel was originally scheduled for release in 2014, but fans have had to wait for over a decade. However, Stephen Lang, who played Quaritch in the original film, has been reassuring fans that the long wait would be worth it.

“I think they’ll be enchanted and fascinated. Look, there are people who are going to just adore this world,” he told EW in August 2021, adding that he can’t say anything about the sequel as they’ll “cut my balls off if I do”.

The release date of the sequel has been pushed back several times, but the most recent was due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to the current global scenario, the film’s release date has been put back to December 2022. We finally know when Avtar 2 will hit global theaters hoping everything went well-considering covid and all.

Avatar 2 Release Date

Long story short, Avatar 2 will ultimately be delivered on December 16, 2022, after being driven back from December 2021 because of the expanding global health crisis.

With a live-action/motion-capture hybrid like James’s all other flicks, we shouldn’t be surprised that the sequel has taken so long to make. They’re “100% done” with Avatar 2 and about 95% done on the third one, according to James Cameron.

Avatar 2 Cast: Who will return to Avatar 2?

All of the initial Avatar cast members have contracts, so they’ll be returning for the sequel.  Princess Neytiri and Jake Sully, the human-turned-Navi, will both reprise their roles in the sequel.

Both Jake and Neytiri are fathers to three Navi kids in the sequel, namely Trinity Bliss’s Tuktirey, Britain Dalton’s Lo’ak, and Jamie Flatters’s Neteyam. Miles Socorro, dubbed Spider, who is portrayed by Jack Champion, is also a human child adopted by them.

Also joining the cast as Dr. Karina Mogue is Marvel’s Michelle Yeoh, who made her on-set debut in March 2021. Expect her to have a major role in the forthcoming Avatar films, as the caption suggested.

Fast & Furious actor Vin Diesel has boarded the sequels, joining Jemaine Clement playing marine biologist Dr. Ian Garvin, who is characterized by James as “one of my favorite characters”.

Avatar 2 Plot: What will Avatar 2 be about?

In the years following the original film, Cameron has hinted at some parts of the narrative of Avatar 2, which will grapple on ‘familial and captivity’ elements. Sully has become chieftain and Neytiri is the high priestess of their tribe, although developments will mostly revolve around their family and kids, which are the core focus of the film.

Deadline claims that Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 film To Catch a Thief, drawn on David Dodge’s 1952 classic novel of the same title, is now in development. Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano, the co-founders of Pilot Wave, will produce the picture. Paramount will produce the film, with Fast and the Furious’ Neal Moritz lending his support.

In 1955, Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece became a box office success. Just a few months ago, the Android 12 started rolling out and moments later rumors and leaks started surfacing about the next generation of android, the Android 13.

The Android 13 is also being called tiramisu which is an Italian dessert and it is rumored to come loaded with new and interesting features like Panlingual and notification permission feature.

One of these new features Google is currently working on is the tap-to-transfer feature that will be introduced with the Android 13.

What is the Tap-To-Transfer Feature?

Google reportedly is working on making it easier to move media from one device to another. That is where the tap-to-transfer feature comes into play. The tap-to-transfer feature allows apps to transfer a small amount of data to objects in their closest proximity.

By using the new feature, all the devices running on Android 13 will be able to transfer media to a nearby device like a speaker from their device. This could be achieved just by going closer to the device you want to share media with.

Once your phone is near the supposed device, a chip notification will be shown on top of the phone’s display if you are near a device compatible with your phone. You will also be given an undo option in your phone to undo the process in case you accidentally start a transfer.

This feature is eerily similar to the feature available on iPhones and HomePod devices. This feature has already started appearing in some android devices but mass adoption is a far cry for now.

How Does the Feature Work?

Android Police shared a Google UI demo mockup which included some screenshots. The mockup is labeled as “Media TTT” workflow, where TTT could stand for tap-to-transfer.

One screenshot included in the demo mockup shows a small message on the top part of the display saying “Move closer to play on DEMO”. The other screenshot reads “Playing on DEMO” on the top of the display as well.

The second message also has an undo button on its right, which is supposedly present to undo the process in case you accidentally start a transfer process or accidentally pass by a speaker but don’t want your music to start playing on the speaker.

Some rumors suggest that Google will be applying the tap-to-transfer feature using Near Field Communication (NFC).

Will it Work for All Android Devices?

For now, no rumors or leaks regarding the support range and compatibility range of the feature have been heard of. So it is unclear whether the tap-to-transfer feature will be compatible with all the android devices, TVs, smartwatches, speakers, etc.

Whatever the case be, the newest tap-to-transfer feature will surely come in handy and contribute to ease of living.

North Korea Fires Second Suspected Missile In Less Than A Week

On Tuesday North Korea launched a suspected ballistic missile into the sea, prompting South Korea’s military to warn that the test, the second in less than a week, showed unmistakable evidence of progress. Before that only Pyongyang acknowledged testing a hypersonic missile less than a week ago.

The incident occurred when during the early morning, to discuss the first missile, UN Security Council met in New York. However, Seoul is still doubtful about the same. On the other hand, the South Korean Military has a stand on it.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea stated in a statement that “A suspected ballistic missile fired by North Korea from land towards the East Sea was detected by our military at around 7:27 a.m. today.”

According to preliminary estimations, the missile went over 700 kilometers i.e. 435 miles to a maximum height of 60 kilometers. This approximately is at a top speed of up to ten times the speed of sound (12,348 kmh/7,673 mph), according to the JCS. They further stated that “We believe this missile is more advanced than the one North Korea launched on January 5.”

Stand of Various Countries

The launch was condemned by various countries around the globe. It was described as destructive by some and hurtful by others. Countries went upset as it violated the peace of the world.”Deep disappointment” over the recent missile test was voiced in an emergency meeting held by the National Security Council (NSC).

“Members of the National Security Council urged North Korea to quickly react to the international community’s aspirations for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and to agree to begin dialogue and cooperation,” the presidential Blue House said in a statement.

Countries like France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Albania have added their voices to the appeal for North Korea to “engage in meaningful talks toward our common objective of total denuclearization.” In total six countries criticized the move of the launching of missiles by North Korea.

Reason Behind North Korea’s Missile Firing

All of us are well versed with the tussle and stiffness going on between the two Korean countries. Out of the two North Korea has been proved as more powerful and influential. North Korea’s military technology has advanced rapidly in the decade since Kim Jong Un assumed control, despite international sanctions.

Despite tremendous economic hardships caused by the coronavirus outbreak, Kim stated last month that the North would continue to strengthen its military capabilities. Since then only continuous testing has been going on by North Korea.

In their five-year plan, only priority was given to strategic weapons. In 2021 only, Pyongyang claimed to have successfully tested a new long-range cruise missile called submarine-launched ballistic missiles. It was a train-launched weapon.

Due to several circumstances like this new tests are introduced by North Korea. The United States of America appealed for talks too regarding the same but was denied. Hence the US-North Korean dialogue has stalled, and Pyongyang is subject to several international sanctions for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

OnePlus 10 Pro Price and Availability

The company has released the OnePlus 10 Pro in the Chinese market only for now. The launch dates in other countries are expected to be somewhere in March.

The price of the OnePlus 10 Pro varies between the three configurations it comes in. The base 8 GB + 128 GB variant costs CNY 4,699, which is around 54,500 Rs. The 8 GB + 256 GB variant will be priced at CNY 4,999 that is 58,100 Rs. And the last 12 GB + 256 GB variant will come at a huge price of CNY 5,299 which amounts to 61,500 Rs.

However, there are no guarantees that these prices will be the same in India once the OnePlus 10 Pro is launched. A lot of sources suggest that these prices are bound to increase once they are released in other countries.

EU Parliament President David Sassoli Passes Away at 65

David Sassoli, an Italian journalist, socialist who rose through the ranks of politics by defending the oppressed and repressed to become president of the European Union’s parliament, died early on Tuesday in an Italian hospital, according to his spokesperson.

Due to the poor functioning of his immune system and other complications he died in a cancer center in the northern town of Aviano. Further, he had also undergone a bone marrow transplant 10 years ago.

The unfortunate news broke in when the late EU President’s spokesperson Roberto Cuillo tweeted the same. He wrote “The EP President David Sassoli passed away at 1.15 am on 11 January at the CRO in Aviano( PN), Italy, where he was hospitalized. The date and place of the funeral will be communicated in the next few hours.”

People Expressed Grief after Sassoli’s Death

Various notable people expressed their grief on the death of David Sassoli. This was clear proof of how influential of a person he was. His aura and impact were such that even Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi expressed his grief. He said “Sassoli was a symbol of balance, humanity, and generosity. These qualities have always been recognized by all his colleagues, from every political quarter and every European country.”

Apart from it, Sassoli was described as “a guy of exceptional kindness, a passionate European… a man of vision and ideas” by former Prime Minister Enrico Letta, who now leads the center-left Democratic Party.

Ursula van der Leyen, the European Commission President who, although being from opposing political groups, was able to gain Sassoli’s support within the EU parliament, stated she had lost a beloved friend.

She told the reporters that “Today is a sad day for Europe. Our union loses a passionate European, a sincere democrat, and a good man. He wanted Europe to be more united, closer to its people, more faithful to our values. That’s his legacy.”

Lastly, Guiseppe Conte former Prime Minister of Italy expressed the sadness through a tweet. He tweeted “His death is a great loss for the entire Italian community and for all those who, just like him, believe and invest in the project of a great European home.”

About the late EU President

Born in 1956 and graduating from Rome University, Sassoli was always a politics fan. He did his graduation in Political Science and began his career as a Journalist for a newspaper. He pursued it for a considerable time and then left it to join politics in 2009.

He became a member of central- left Democratic Party. He was the leader of the PD’s representation in the Parliament from 2009 to 2014. In 2019, he was elected President of the European Union.

His time in the largely ceremonial capacity was set to expire this month. Roberta Metsola, a member of the conservative European People’s Party from Malta, is widely likely to succeed him.
