At least 56 people, including children, were killed in an attack on a shelter for displaced persons in Ethiopia’s Tigray area, according to two humanitarian workers who spoke to Reuters on Saturday.

Requests for a response from military spokesperson Colonel Getnet Adane & ministry spokesman Legesse Tulu went unanswered. In the 14-month fight with rebel Tigrayan troops, the government has repeatedly denied harming civilians.

According to charity workers, the strike took place late on Friday night in Dedebit, a town in northwest Ethiopia close to the Eritrean border, and they requested anonymity since they are not allowed to talk publicly.

Some opposition figures had already been released from prison on Friday when the administration declared it would begin a conversation with political adversaries to encourage peace.

Both humanitarian workers stated that the death toll had been verified by local officials on the ground in the area. It was reported that relief workers supplied Reuters photos of injured patients in hospitals that they claimed to have taken themselves.

There are a lot of elderly women and kids in the camp, according to an aid worker who inspected Shire Suhul General Hospital.

“They told me the bombs came at midnight. It was completely dark, and they couldn’t escape,” the aid worker said.

Reconciliation Effort

According to the TPLF, the federal government has imposed an assistance embargo on the region, resulting in famine and a lack of necessities like gasoline and medication for the people living there. The administration disputes that relief convoys have been obstructed.

A deep region of low pressure in the northwest of the Country is delivering significant rain and snow to a large swath of the country. According to the Environment Agency in England, flooding is a real possibility. Also in Wales, there are five alerts, but none in Scotland.

The Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracombe, and Combe Martin section of the North Devon coast is included in one of the England warnings zones.

More than a dozen rivers and streams in Exmoor, the Mid Bristol Avon area, Leicestershire, and the Middle Exe area are also included in the warnings. The Rivers Clyst and Culm, the Rivers Crake, Duddon, and Mill Beck, West Somerset Streams, and the Severn Vyrnwy confluence are also included.

According to the Met Office prediction-

 “early rain, heavy at times, clearing eastwards, finally clearing East Anglia and southeast England late afternoon”.

Walks like a penguin have been encouraged by the NHS across Greater Glasgow and Clyde amid the frigid weather (NHSGGC).

People are being advised by the health service to flex their knees slightly, point their feet out slightly, stretch their hands at their sides, walk flat-footed – taking small strides, and maintain their center of mass over their heels to prevent falling.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s director of public health, Linda de Caestecker, said:

“While it might seem silly to walk or waddle like a penguin, in the context of the wintery conditions we’re seeing today, penguins know best.

“If you find yourself out and about in icy conditions, adopting the penguin stance is a really effective way to move without falling.”

The strong west wind will make it feel cold in Scotland, with temperatures anticipated to range between 6C (43F) and 8C (46F).

Readings in the south of England are expected to reach between 10C (50F) and 11C (52F), while those in northern England are expected to reach between 7C (44F) and 8C (46F).

As the day progresses, most of Scotland will be dry and sunny, with temperatures likely to range from 4C (40F) to 7C (43F) (44F).

On Sunday, most of England will have dry and sunny conditions, with a few showers possible in the west. On Monday, rain is expected to creep eastward, although the extreme southeast will be spared.

A horrible traffic accident in the Sinai Peninsula located in Egypt was reported. The accident is also being reported to have caused at least 16 casualties and a fixed number has not been confirmed yet.

Details Regarding the Accident

A supposed accident has occurred because of a clash between a microbus and a larger bus. According to health officials, the crash took place on a road that links the city of Tor in southern Sinai and the city of Suez.

The microbus coming from the opposite side collided with a public transportation bus on the reported road and the crash happened at a distance of 10 km from the city of Tor.

The reported death tally reaches 16 currently and the amount of injured people in the crash is 18. According to the health ministry, 13 ambulances were deployed to the crash site as soon as possible and the injured passengers were taken to hospitals located in southern Sinai.

Accidents Like These Are Not Uncommon in Egypt

Egypt has a very poor transportation safety record as thousands of lives are lost on the road in deadly accidents every year in the country.

Egypt is a country with one of the highest fatality rates in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Most recent estimates show that Egypt has a road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100,000 populations.

Among these, RTIs are responsible for 1.8 percent of all deaths in the country. According to WHO: “Traffic flows in Egypt are chaotic with trucks, pedestrians, two-wheelers, buses, and motor vehicles all sharing the same space. In addition, there is poor infrastructure, particularly for vulnerable road users.”

Last year in October, 19 people lost their lives in a head-on collision between vehicles right outside of Cairo. And a month before in September, a bus overturned on a highway linking Cairo and the city of Suez which killed 12 people and caused injuries to 30 people.

Who Was Sidney Poitier?

Sidney L. Poitier was born to Evelyn and Reginald James Poitier on February 20, 1927, in Miami, Florida. Although his whole family lived in the Bahamas which was a part of a British Colony but surprisingly he was born in Miami when his family went there for a weekend.

He was then granted US citizenship and he joined the American Negro Theatre at age 16. There he got his first film role in the movie Blackboard Jungle.

Then he starred in The Defiant Ones where he landed his first nomination for Best Actor and a nomination in BAFTA which he won. He then continued to win the Academy Award as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in the movie Lilies of the Field.

Sidney’s Career and Contributions

Poitier was granted an honorary knighthood position in 1974 by Queen Elizabeth II and in 1995 he was given the Kennedy Center Honor. Then in 2009, he proceeded to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is supposedly the highest honor a civilian can receive in the United States.

Sidney always refused to be defined by race all along with his career but his contribution and brilliant performances paved the way for the future generation of black actors. He broke through all racial barriers as he became the first black actor to win the Oscar for the best actor.

He also inspired a whole generation in the civil rights movement. He played a crucial role with his performances in easing the racial tension in America during the 1950s and 1960s.

His career that spanned seven decades got him a long list of awards in which two more Oscar nominations, six BAFTA awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations are included.

61-year-old actor George Rossi, well known for his role as DC Duncan Lennox on The Bill, has died. The actor’s loved ones announced that he had passed away on Wednesday, 5 January, at the age of 61.

Bill Star George Rossi passed away peacefully in the arms of his family, according to his bereaved widow, who stated that he had been fighting pancreatic cancer for some time.

George Rossi died in his North London home surrounded by his beloved wife Catrin, and two children Matilda, 26, and Santino, 24.

In a statement, Catrin told MailOnline:

‘George was a wonderful person. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after losing his battle against pancreatic cancer.

‘He died at home which is what he wanted. We will miss him terribly and we are all really grieving at the moment and trying to come to terms with this huge loss. The children are devastated as am I.’

She held her tears and said: ‘It was expected but this has hit us hard and we really don’t know what more to say.’

George and Catrin wedded in 1988 and were living together since. Catrin’s children, friends, and other relatives are at their family home supporting her. Upon learning of his passing, his niece Louisa posted on Facebook that he had been acting strangely only a few days prior.

Louise shared a post on Twitter and captioned-

‘Unfortunately, George Rossi who played DC Duncan Lennox passed away the morning of Wednesday 5th January 2022.

‘This is my uncle,’ she added. ‘He was acting still up until recently. Unfortunately, he passed away yesterday morning.’

Since his debut in 1993, Rossi has appeared in about 200 episodes of The Bill, making him a fan favorite until he left the program in 2003, 10 years later. In addition to The Bill, Rossi has appeared in several other renowned television shows, including Taggart, where he portrayed two separate roles.

In 1994, he played Kevin in the tv series Roughnecks, and then in 2009 and 2010, he played DC McCormack during the first two seasons of Whitechapel.

George was raised in Govan, Glasgow, the son of Italian immigrants and employed in the ice-cream truck with his family. This actor was educated in Debden, Essex at the East 15 Acting School.

George also appears as Kevin in Roughnecks and as Peter’s brother in the 1984 film Comfort and Joy.

In addition to his roles in Holby City & Casualty, as well as the Television show The Singing Detective, the actor acted in the 1983 comedy-drama film Local Hero alongside Dennis Lawson, Fulton Mackay, and Peter Riegert.

In 2013, George took the role of Gianpaolo Albertini in BBC’s Soap Doctors, and then previously he also appeared as Marco in Hustle.

Billy Murray, the actor who portrayed Don Beech on The Bill from 1995 to 2004 took to Twitter and offered his condolences saying-

‘Devastated to hear #GeorgeRossi has died. A funny, warm colleague at The Bill and a fine actor. 60 no age. RIP my friend.’

Performer Ben Peyton, who portrayed Ben Hayward on “The Bill” from 2000 to 2003 tweeted-

‘I remember when I’d just started and we had to talk together in the background of a scene before I walked out of shot and he carried the scene on.’ ‘I’d always say ‘Cheers, Sir,’ as I left even though we were the same rank (PC & DC). I had no idea and assumed he was my superior. I must’ve said it about five or six times before someone pointed it out. ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ I said. ‘Because it was funny,’ he chuckled.’

George Rossi was a great actor and more importantly, a great person, and his sudden demise has left a void. in the entertainment industry.
