The Bangtan Boys, popularly known as BTS has created history by becoming the first-ever foreign Artist To Top Oricon’s annual artist rankings. Earlier, BTS became the first foreign group to ever top Oricon’s year-end album chart. It has been noted that BTS is the first after legendary Michael Jackson to achieve this feat after 37 long years. Jackson was ranked in 1984 for his album ‘Thriller’.
The news broke when Oricon on December 24, named BTS at Japan’s leading music statistics site. The annual rankings are based on the overall sales of an artist’s singles, albums, and DVDs for the whole year, as well as their streaming data.
Oricon compiled sales statistics within Japan from December 28, 2020 to December 20, 2021 for this year’s rankings, and “BTS, THE BEST” was the best-selling album of the year, according to their estimations, with 993,000 copies sold in Japan.

Six American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, 24 Golden Disk Awards, and nominations for two Grammy Awards and a Brit Award are among the group’s many honours.
BTS’ ‘BTS, THE BEST’ is a Japanese compilation album that comprises 23 songs that the group has released in the Japanese language since 2017. It featured the pre-release music ‘Film Out,’ which was written by Jungkook in collaboration with Back Number, a Japanese rock band.
The original Japanese-language songs ‘Your eyes Tell,’ ‘Crystal Snow,’ Japanese renditions of ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears,’ ‘Fake Love,’ ‘Idol,’ ‘Mic Drop,’ and a Japanese remake of ‘ON,’ ‘Dynamite,’ and more can all be found on this album.
