Sport, Service, and Scholarship

Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego hosted their 2019 celebration gala at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in September, the foundation’s most successful fundraising event in its 25-year history. Over 550 guests attended, with golf legend and San Diego native Phil Mickelson and Callaway Golf President and CEO Chip Brewer, among others, serving as guest speakers for the evening’s festivities. Phil and Amy Mickelson served as this year’s honorees for their contributions to the organization, and Sept. 7 was proclaimed “Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego Day” in San Diego.

Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego serves children across San Diego County with primary program locations in Oceanside and City Heights – two communities affected by poverty, gang violence, and poor high school graduation rates. Since its inception in 1994, the foundation has used the game of golf to engage kids in positive behaviors outside of school, helping them develop the character they need to be successful. Golf instruction is coupled with a curriculum designed by The First Tee that teaches children life skills, such as how to introduce themselves to someone new or what to do when they get angry or frustrated, and core values like respect and honesty.

The organization also offers academic support to children in second through seventh grade through its Pro Kids Academy program, as well as comprehensive college and career prep programs for high school members. Learn more at www.thefirstteesandiego.org.
