Local Dancer to Compete in World Championships
Thirteen-year-old Carmel Valley resident Katie Albright has been selected as a member of the 2018 USA Tap Dance Team and will be traveling to Riesa, Germany to compete in the World Tap Championships from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. The USA team includes 78 dancers from 18 states who will compete against tap dancers from over 30 countries around the world.
Katie is a four-time national solo champion in tap, jazz, and lyrical dance. She has won 24 regional dance titles and seven national dance photogenic titles. She has also earned numerous Grand National Championship titles with her team at The Element Dance Center. She recently began training in competitive Latin ballroom dance and won her first world championship in September. She is also an active advocate of the Dancers Against Cancer foundation and works to raise awareness and funds for dancers battling cancer. When she’s not dancing, Katie enjoys singing, modeling, acting, swimming, and traveling.
