If there’s one thing that North County residents enjoy more than the beach, it’s the various cuisine, beverages, and sweet treats throughout San Diego. Here, we offer a taste of some local flavor.
FARE & FESTIVITY
In the spirit of this year’s San Diego County Fair theme, “How Sweet It Is!” food vendors will be offering especially creative and colorful treats for fair-goers, like cotton candy ice cream sandwiches and unicorn cupcakes. Longtime vendors will continue to serve up old fair favorites, including corn dogs, giant turkey legs, curly fries, funnel cakes, kettle corn, and all things deep fried!
Padres fans have new options for satisfying their mid-game munchies this season, with two San Diego favorites adding ballpark locations. Buona Forchetta offers simply delicious Italian fare from Neapolitan pizza to gelato. Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill will open one stand serving fish tacos and sandwiches and a second stand with an expanded menu of fresh, local seafood.
ON THE MAP
San Diego will soon gain one of Orange County’s most beloved doughnut shops, Sidecar Doughnuts, in Carmel Valley’s Del Mar Highlands Town Center. The menu rotates regularly, featuring daily signature flavors like huckleberry and maple bacon, as well as special monthly varieties such as churro, rosemary lemon drop, tiramisu, blood orange creamsicle, and birthday cake, as well as a weekly gluten-free option. All doughnuts are made from scratch with fresh, seasonal ingredients in small batches throughout the day. Sidecar is expected to open its Carmel Valley doors this fall.
