North County DanceArts, Inc. is expanding adding more classes for the 2018-19 dance year!

So what’s the background of NCDA, you wonder? Prior to opening the studio, owner Louis McKay led an extensive professional career in the performing arts, working for renowned organizations such as the San Diego Opera Company, The Bright Side, and Starlight Theatre. He trained alongside dance legends including Pat Ricco, Gower Champion, and Toni Stevens. “Louis held the position of lead singer and dancer as well as the choreographer for The Debbie Reynolds Show for 10 years,” noted Tanya. “Louis’ television appearances included special guest on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, The John Davidson Show, The Mike Douglas Show, The Sonny and Cher Show, The Donny and Marie Show, and the Barbara Mandrell Show.”
After retiring in 1980, Louis felt compelled to share his passion for dance and stage. He subsequently opened NCDA. Since that time, NCDA has operated in five San Diego locations: Solana Beach, La Costa, Rancho Peñasquitos, Del Mar, and Carmel Valley. Tanya joined her husband in instructing at NCDA in 1994. Prior to that time, she too had a broad professional career in the performing arts, training in ballet from age eight to joining the Corps de Ballet at the Pacific Northwest Ballet and later becoming a featured dancer in many industrial video productions.
Today, the McKays pride themselves on running a family-oriented facility, upholding their staff to a strict code of ethics. “NCDA is a family-based dance school that focuses on providing the best professional instruction in a loving and nurturing atmosphere in order to build technique and instill a sense of self-worth and good self-esteem,” stated Tanya. “The staff instructors are those of the highest quality. The development of the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the student is their highest goal.” She added, “Our tagline ‘When love and art come together, expect a masterpiece’ has been proven year after year.”
