Canyon Crest Academy Envision Theatre Arts is presenting Into the Woods this December. The show runs Dec. 8 – 16 in the Black Box Theatre on campus.

Into the Woods, a timeless tale about wishes, family, and the choices we make, premiered at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego on Dec. 4, 1986. Thirty-one years and four days later, Into the Woods will open at CCA under the direction of CCA Envision Theatre Arts Coordinator Jeannine Marquie with musical direction by guest artist Leigh Scarritt.

“We have set this carefully constructed fairytale in a futuristic, dilapidated library, forgotten by the world and overrun by nature to exemplify the resilience of our collective memory’s ability to absorb and adapt to external forces,” said Ms. Marquie. “In this case (as with the characters in the story), the joy of storytelling survives despite all odds. Storytelling is so important, especially in today’s society. We want the listener to take this lesson, which contains both comfort and warning from one generation to the next, and apply it to life in the real world.”

Ms. Marquie’s vision for the show incorporates a truly unique experience for a few lucky audience members: 20 seats will be set onstage and available on a first come basis for attendees who want the thrill of travelling into the woods alongside the characters.

Tickets are $6 with student ASB card, $8 for students, and $15 for adults. Available here.
