Local Author Releases Fifth Children’s Book
Imagination and Adventure
Carmel Valley resident and children’s book author Henry Herz recently released his newest book, Cap’n Rex & His Clever Crew. In Henry’s signature fantasy/science fiction style, the book is a “mash-up” of two unlikely elements: dinosaurs and pirates. Captain Rex and his crew sail the seven seas in search of buried treasure. Whenever they hit an obstacle, the crew members are quick to say they can’t overcome, yet they are somehow always able to come up with a clever solution. The story highlights the values of a child’s creativity and determination in tough situations.
Cap’n Rex & His Clever Crew is Henry’s fifth traditionally published picture book. He is also the author of Monster Goose Nursery Rhymes, When You Give an Imp a Penny, Mabel and the Queen of Dreams, and Little Red Cuttlefish. “I write fantasy and science fiction for kids because it’s fun and challenging at the same time,” he said, “and I think those genres are particularly powerful ways to spark a child’s imagination and plant the seed for a lifelong love of reading.” Henry is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and often participates in literature panels at conventions such as San Diego Comic-Con. Cap’n Rex & His Clever Crew is available for purchase at any independent bookstore or on Amazon.
