Together, the Maltzmans Make Amazing Memories – and Even Better Wine
Through the Grapevine
For the Maltzmans, every day is an adventure, which they embark on as a family. “We are a uniquely mobile and travel-centric family. We own three award-winning wineries – Navigator Wines in Napa, Gold Creek Vineyards in the Sierra foothills, and Continental Divide Winery based in Summit County, CO. Our whole family spends time at all three wineries, and as much time as possible skiing each winter and hiking every summer in Colorado,” revealed Ana Maltzman. The wine business is a family affair, with Jeffrey serving as the lead winemaker, Ana assisting in crafting the final blend formulas and overseeing marketing and label design and their daughters Alexis and Jessica helping with grape harvests.
Jeffrey and Ana began their wine business venture after Jeffrey won a business plan challenge contest with a plan to launch a cruise ship-based floating winery. Although the plans changed to a land-based business, Jeffrey and Ana knew they had something special. “We have a history with wine…in a good way. Our first out-of-town trip together was to Napa, and we fell in love with the region. We got engaged in Napa and were married at a San Diego winery. We started making wine about five years ago, and in 2014, our business expanded when we obtained our own vineyard in the Sierra foothills,” explained Ana. Their Navigator’s Captain’s Private Reserve was named the best 2012 Cabernet in the world by Sunset Magazine, and their new winery in Colorado is the highest altitude winery in the world.
The Maltzmans may be a multi-city family, but there is only one place they call home. “We love the family-friendly atmosphere of Carmel Valley and are proud of our neighborhood and our community,” said Ana, citing the close proximity to the beach and excellent schools as two of their favorite features of the area.
She and Jeffrey are also the principle partners at Maltzman & Partners, a boutique law firm specializing in representing cruise lines, hotels, and travel-related companies. Alexis is a sophomore at Canyon Crest Academy, where she is on the Speech and ComedySportz teams. Jessica is an eighth grader at Pacific Trails Middle School, where she is a member of ASB Leadership. Both girls enjoy musical theater, and Jessica plays the guitar for an all-girl rock band. And despite their busy schedules, the family slows down each Sunday for a family breakfast, a cherished tradition.
