The San Diego Police Department’s Northwestern Division recently received 14 automated external defbrillators (AED), delivered by City Councilman Mark Kersey and City Council President Sherri Lightner, from San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Project Heartbeat. The Northwestern Division has now joined the SDPD’s Northeastern Division in having each of their patrol cars equipped with the life-saving technology, which is used to treat sudden cardiac arrest by transmitting electric shocks to the heart. Funding for the AEDs was authorized by Councilman Mark and Council President Sherri through their respective Community Programs, Projects and Services (CPPS) funds.
The Northwestern Division serves a population of 70,822 and encompasses an area of 41.6 square miles including the communities of Black Mountain Ranch, Carmel Valley, and Sorrento Valley. For more information about the division visit www.sandiego.gov.
