Carmel Valley Pediatrics
Carmel Valley Pediatrics Makes Every Doctor Visit Special for Children
It can be a bit intimidating for a child to visit a pediatrician. The experience is much less scary when doctors are sensitive, compassionate, and respectful of their young patients. Thank goodness for Carmel Valley Pediatrics, where owner Chrystal de Freitas, M.D., emphasizes a calm, fun, and pleasant experience for youngsters. She even authored a children’s picture book, Jake’s Kindergarten Checkup, which is geared specifically towards easing those fears when visiting the doctor.
All of the doctors at Carmel Valley Pediatrics, including two new physicians, Dr. Krista Young and Dr. Deborah Rana, are board certified in Pediatrics and also parents themselves. Therefore, each pediatrician understands firsthand the usual parental concerns: caring for twins & newborns, sleep issues, colds, asthma, and all the other illness that children experience. Dr. Young proclaimed, “We are a small, personalized practice and we truly enjoy caring for children’s health. Our office is ‘warm and fuzzy,’ and reading to children is a big theme that we promote. Above all we promote a personal connection between the child and the doctor. Of course, an occasional sugar-free lollipop always helps!”
“Our best virtue is our ability to listen; it’s all about taking the time to listen to the parents and the children.” – Chrystal de Freitas, M.D.
Parents appreciate that the doctors at Carmel Valley Pediatrics always return phone calls and are accessible via email. The office also utilizes state-of-the-art electronic medical records and electronic prescriptions to all pharmacies in the area. In addition, the practice offers parenting classes and a health education seminar, called “Healthy Chats,” which teaches puberty education to mothers and their daughters, ages nine through 11.
Dr. D, as she is often called, started Carmel Valley Pediatrics after her own children had grown and left for college. “That first year, my then-high school son was my receptionist!” she remembers warmly. Prior to her present location, she worked for North County Health Services, in Encinitas, and before that in private practice in Ann Arbor, MI.
“Whoever said seeing the doctor shouldn’t be fun and uplifting as well as reassuring?” says Dr. Rana. “We seek to promote an atmosphere which is warm and inviting, yet professional and efficient to meet the needs of the children in our practice and their families.”
“Our medical style is characterized by joint decision-making to help families stay healthy and provide information to prevent illnesses. Over time, our patients look forward to coming to the doctor’s office. We seek to partner with parents in promoting the health and well-being of the kids who come to our practice and we have fun while doing it.”
