Del Mar Pines School created a school-wide mural for the Wyland “Water is Life” National Art Competition and won in the K-4 category. Tanya Robinson, Art Instructor, expressed the school’s enthusiasm, “We are honored to win this prestigious award and pleased it was for such an important topic. This year’s theme was Our Ocean. While each student communicates their own interpretation of the theme, all 145 students collaborated to create one mural, promoting the protection of our oceans.” The concept for the mural was designed by Mr. Robinson and Del Mar Pines intern Marissa Woytowitz, a Del Mar Pines School graduate and current Torrey Pines High School student. The mural draws attention to the diminishing number of female sea turtles in our oceans. The Spanish message “Protect It” signifies the importance of Californians collaborating with Mexico to help protect the sea turtles from extinction and reach out to this region’s large Hispanic population.
