UC San Diego New Trustees
Seven Trustees Join the UC San Diego Foundation Board
The UC San Diego Foundation trustees play a vital role in forming community partnerships and generating resources to support UC San Diego’s research, teaching, and public service initiatives. Seven trustees, including 92130 resident Leo Spiegel, recently joined the 2014-2015 Foundation board this year. Comprised of regional business executives, philanthropists, law professors, and alumni, the Foundation is proud to welcome this year’s new trustees.
Leo Spiegel, former UC San Diego alum, returns to the board again this year. Over the last six years he has served on the investment and development committees. He was the chair of the development committee for two years and looks forward to leading the committee after a one year sabbatical. “During my tenure on the board I have contributed in a variety of ways including hosting events at our home, participating in many university events, advocating for the university, and helping to solicit potential donors,” stated Leo. His goals this year consist of providing leadership to the overall strategy and positioning of the school as well as activities related to philanthropic support.
Leo is currently a managing partner at Mission Ventures, a Southern California venture capital firm that invests in early stage IT companies. He is also senior vice president of strategy and corporate development at Pivotal. In addition to serving on the UC San Diego Foundation board, Leo is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego, and serves as a board member for the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego.
