After meeting in Mexico, James and Christine dated for five years. They parted and pursued separate careers – James in commercial real estate and Christine at a record label – but later rekindled their romance. They’ve now been married fourteen years and chose to live in Torrey Hills for the privacy, open space, proximity to beaches and freeways, the school district, and the neighbors. “We love that our kids can run from house to house on our street and are always greeted with an open door,” shared Christine.

The Renners adopted Nikolas from Russia in 2005 and recently returned from a heritage camp where they learned about Russian culture, cuisine, and language. Nikolas wants to be a counselor at this camp in the future. He also enjoys playing Minecraft and participating on his school’s robotics team.

Contributing to their community is important to the Renners. James serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County, and Christine participates on two PTA executive boards and volunteers for REECA Heritage Camp to raise funds so more adoptive families can attend. Nikolas collects baby clothes and diapers for Angels Family Foster Care.

The Renner family loves sports. James coaches two adult basketball teams, and his teams have been league champions five times. Nikolas and Luke have played basketball since kindergarten, and their dad has been their coach nearly every season. At home they participate in family bump-out games on their home court. Additionally, both boys have earned their green senior belts in Taekwondo.

Music and dance are also an integral part of Renner life. Christine worked in Hollywood at A&M Records, and James and his sister competed in street dance competitions during high school. Both Nikolas and Luke take hip hop dance lessons, and this year Luke plans to compete in jazz and contemporary because he loves pushing himself. Christine even takes adult hip hop classes despite having two left feet. Nikolas plays the drums, and Luke plays the guitar and ukulele. Now they’re both learning to play “Stairway to Heaven.” Christine expressed, “Our iPods are always on in the house and car, and there’s always a dance party about to happen, especially during the holidays when we get the entire Renner clan together!” In fact, the Renners even converted part of their garage to a mini dance studio complete with hardwood floors, black lights, and a disco ball.
