The 7th Annual Walk a Mile in her Shoes Event Encourages Attendees to Step Up for a Cause

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore rocks them. The team from Dick’s Last Resort pairs them with flashy costumes, and many local TV personalities have been seen teetering downtown in the Gaslamp District of San Diego in a pair. That’s right, these men have all participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a one-mile walk in women’s shoes that raises money to benefit the YWCA’s Becky House Domestic Violence Program. YWCA of San Diego County empowers women, children and families to break the cycle of domestic violence. The event seeks to raise awareness about the critical issue of domestic violence and encourages the public to stay involved in seeking a solution. This year’s walk will be held on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in downtown San Diego at 4th and K Streets with registration and activities beginning at 5 p.m. The celebration will continue after at the offical Jolt‘n Joe’s After Party.

Nearly 500 participants united together for the walk last year, netting over $86,000 for the program. Carmel Valley resident and CEO of the YWCA of San Diego County Heather Finlay elaborated, “Hundreds of walkers support this community-wide effort to raise awareness of domestic violence each year. Proceeds from the event help stop the cycle of abuse and allow women and families to rebuild their lives through the YWCA and our Becky’s House domestic violence program.”
