SPARK, the 33rd Annual UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Gala was recently held at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla’s Aventine Ballroom. Co-chaired by Amy and Bill Koman, and Drs. Magda Marquet and François Ferré, the night featured a live luxury auction and raise-the-paddle opportunities, as well as entertainment by Tony and Grammy Award winning vocalist Heather Headley.

The gala was met by an outpouring of generosity with guests providing more than $1.5 million in support of UC San Diego. In addition, these funds were matched to $3 million by an anonymous donor through the Challenge for Jacobs Medical Center, and also matched to $2 million thanks to institutional matches from Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla and UC San Diego Health System. Moved by the generosity of the attendees and supporters, both Chancellor Khosla and Paul Viviano, Chief Executive Officer of UC San Diego Health System, increased their matches from $650,000 to $1 million each during the gala. Funds, including the matches, totaled more than $5 million in support of cancer research, education and care.

Proceeds from SPARK will support Jacobs Medical Center, including its Hospital for Cancer Care, as well as patient programs at Moores Cancer Center.
