In early June, Cathedral Catholic High School hosted the Team Ronan Rugby Challenge to help defray the cost of medical bills for Ronan Nelson, a sophomore from CCHS who suffered serious injury in early April. During the rugby match, Ronan collided with another athlete, resulting in a spinal cord injury at the C6 level.

In attendance at the challenge were members of San Diego State University and the CCHS rugby teams. A highlight of the event was the USA Rugby Eagles 7s participating in an exhibition game and signing autographs afterward.
